Merry Christmas 2022!

Updated: Oct 26, 2023

Merry Christmas, whilst I hope we are all taking a break away from work and spending time with family and friends, I've been asked a lot about what kit I used on the PCR22 so made the most of the down time to list it out below! Enjoy the read!

The Bike

Cube Litening C68x Race, started with Newmen Advanced SL 38 wheels, finished with DT Swiss E1800 wheels. These were shod in Goodyear Eagle F1 28mm tyres, set up tubeless. SRAM Force AXS ETAP 48/35 chainrings with a 10-33 cassette. Selle Italia Flite Kit Carbonio Flow Saddle

The Bags - Tailfin Aeropack Carbon (20L)

- Apidura Racing Top Tube (1.5L)

- Apidura Racing Frame Pack (2.4L)

- Apidura Expedition Handlebar Pack (9L)

What did I Pack?

As this was my first ultra I was unsure what to pack, so definitely overpacked (something learned for the future).

I tried to put things that you'd need access to occasionally and quickly within easy reach, I'll admit it took a couple of days to get into the speed of unpacking and packing down, something I've been able to learn from. Anyway here is what went into each bag:

Frame Bag 2 x power banks USB cables SRAM battery charger

Hydration Tabs

Spare brake pads

Tyre Levers

Quick Link

Passport & Brevet Card

Toothbrush & Paste

Mini First Aid Kit Clear Sunglass Lens Top Tube Bag Multitool Tubeless Plugs

CO2 cartridges and adapter MiniPump Spare Tubeless Valve and core remover Gels

Handlebar Bag

Spare bib shorts

2 x spare jerseys

Socks

Gilet

Waterproof Gloves

Leisure Shorts

T-Shirt

Barefoot Shoes

Suntan Lotion

Seatpack

Sleeping Bag

Bivvy Bag

Sleeping Mat Inflatable Pillow

Baby Wipes

Collapsable bowl and mug

Mini-stove

Rehydrated meals

What was I wearing?

I spent most of the ride in my trusty Assos Mille GTO bib shorts. I can't fault these bib shorts in anyway. All day confy and not a single saddle sore for the whole trip. In fact all my bibs were Assos, its personal I know and they aren't cheap but once you find something that is soo good you don't look back Jersey wise, we knew the weather was going to pretty good in the lead up to the race so went with:

- DHB Ultralight - La Passione Ultralight - La Passione Livery - La Passione Mesh Base Layer

Footwear was taken care of by some Ratio socks and some Northwave Mistal Plus shoes.

Trust Kask Protone helmet and Sungod Velans rounded it all off.

Also packed were a Castelli gilet, Peter Storm down jacket, Gripgrab overshoes and gloves. What would I change?

The answer is lots! The PCR was very much a steep learning curve as my first ultra-endurance event.

With more events planned in 2023, items listed above most certainly will be shed in the search for less weight, more speed and less faff! Hope you all have a great Christmas and New Year period and here's to many adventures in 2023! x
